Precision Computations for Photons, Jets and BSM-Particles at the LHC

Abstract

Doctoral thesis combining fixed-order QCD calculations with parton showers via the POWHEG method to compute the production of real and virtual photons at the LHC, both of which serve as signals of the quark-gluon plasma, together with studies of BSM particle production. Includes the implementation of a new POWHEG BOX V2 process for photon production with two jets at next-to-leading order QCD.
